John Doran. Practice Owner, Breeze Dental
John took his successes and learnings in industry and management consultancy, and brought them into his wife's dental practice. They have grown the business eightfold in fifteen years…and continue to look for ways to make it more efficient….. and thus more profitable. He has worked with all sizes of dental practices around the country…delivering improvements and increasing profits His session is based on some of the tools and tips that he has used in his own career….and you can use them too!! He believes that many dentists are truly awful managers…but they can be cured!! He believes that most staff want to do a good job…and it's often the practice's fault that they don't!! He believes that too many practices suffer from 'we need a perfect plan'….he says 'start today'!! Strap in!!!
Doug Hamilton. Dento-Legal Advisor, MDDUS
Doug graduated BDS from the University of Glasgow in 1989. His clinical career was primarily in general dental practice. He was awarded an LLM in healthcare law by the University of Dundee in 2009. He started working on a part-time basis, for the MDDUS shortly thereafter. In 2014, Doug retired from dental practice to work exclusively, as a dental advisor, for the MDDUS.
Jacinta McKiernan. Practice Management Consultant, British Dental Association
Jacinta is Chartered MCIPD qualified in human resources, who has fifteen years' experience in delivering and advising on all aspects of human resource management and employment relations. She has provided advice on a range of employment law topics, complex employment relations issues and has lectured on a variety of HRM subjects.
Sabina Mirza. Practice Management Consultant, British Dental Association
Sabina joined the BDA as a Practice Management Consultant in October 2011. She is an experienced human resources professional with Chartered membership of the CIPD. Her specialism is people issues and management development. At the BDA Sabina provides advice and representation on all aspects of running a dental practice, focussing primarily on employment and contractual matters. Sabina also researches and updates members on the latest legal developments affecting dental practices.
Gavin Venchard. Principal, Acorn Dental Surgery, Gosforth
Gavin qualified from Newcastle University 1984 and went on to be a House Officer in oral surgery, oral radiology, oral pathology, oral medicine and restorative dentistry at Newcastle Dental Hospital and School. He earnt a Diploma in Conscious Sedation 1997 University of Newcastle upon Tyne. From July 1987 to 1997 Gavin was Principal of a general dental practice in Sunderland, South Tyneside and Durham, and is currently Principal of a General Dental Practice at the Acorn Dental Surgery in Newcastle. Gavin is currently a Vocational/Foundation Trainer and a Trainer in sedation techniques in the Northern and Yorkshire regions. He was the BDA Clinical Audit Facilitator for the Northern region and is still involved in numerous clinical audit and clinical effectiveness projects.
