Ref; Today's article in PULSE: Almost half of CCGs apply to take full responsibility for commissioning general practice.
This is likely to be a real mixed bag. For some areas it will be fantastic, where the CCGs are dynamic, go ahead and prepared to accept some risk to achieve a better outcome, this will be a boom! For the vast majority it will have little or no impact as CCGs will do little or nothing with it, and for some it is a recipe for disaster for General Practice as this will be the only focus for some CCGs, particularly where they have been poor at commissioning secondary care services – this becomes an easy focus for micromanagement.
